Tips for Traveling With Your Dog

Holiday season is upon us which means many families will be traveling. Whether you’re taking your dog or boarding, being well prepared is key!

First things first, is your dog healthy? You want to schedule a visit with your vet to make sure your dog is fit and healthy enough to embark on the journey! Make sure to update their vaccinations, dog tags, and their chip if they have one. Also, make sure to ask your veterinarian about any medications you may need during your trip.

For flying: although you can travel by cargo with your companion, if your fury baby is small enough most airlines will let you take them in the cabin for a fee. Before your travel date, make sure to call your airline and ask what their pet policy is, you never know!

For car: you want your doggo as comfortable as possible. The most important thing is to designate a spot for your dog. There are a lot of distractions in a car, and the last thing you want him to do is distract you while you’re driving. Don’t roll the windows all the way down. Dogs are naturally curious creatures, so you want to make sure that they get enough air, but you don’t want them to jump out of the window either. Breaks are important! You want to give your dog time to eat, drink, play and do their business!
